Lynn Q

Hello,

I posted this same question on the Outlook group on February 8th and
last evening, but I am still having continuing and worsening problems.
I really need some clues here. Not sure it's just an Outlook problem,
but perhaps a system error.

Having just tried to open Outlook 2000 and finding it would not respond
I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and then counted 159 (yep, 159) Outlook.exe files
running. I checked this after receiving a Virtual Memory Minimum error
message.

I am using O2K SR1 with all updates applied on a Win XP Pro system (all
updates also applied). (Office 2000 Pro SR-1).

It is only in the last few months that I have encountered this multiple
copies problem and need to try to find out what is causing this to happen.

Please, can anyone advise me what to check here? Why would the system
keep opening new copies of Outlook.exe? I have also seen the same thing
happen with WinWord.exe but only a few copies show up here.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Have you run a virus check on your machine?
Hi there,

I run a complete virus cheque every night, no problems found at all. I
also downloaded new definitions last evening. Using Norton SystemWorks
2003, all up-to-date.

I also have Norton Utilities set to run SpeedDisk when defragmentation
is below 10%, last run on Feb. 16th.

I have started having this kind of problem in the last few weeks. Not with Outlook (I am using Outlook Express) but wit
a number of other programs. My wife uses Compuserve 2000 and the problem is severe with this application. I have three late model machines, each with different sets of hardware and software applications but all running Windows XP Home, The problem with multiple applications has started to occur on all of them. My recollection is that this problem started about a month ago. Re virusus etc. All three machines are completely up to date with XP Patches and are checke
regularly by Norton Antivirus 2003 or 2004 with completely up to date definitions. Every few days I run Ad-Aware and Registry Mechanic. I think something happened with Windows in one of the updates. Prior to this problem Windows XP was wonderful. This doesn't solve your problem but I wanted to post my experience

Good luck with finding a fi

Lynn, did you ever get any help?....I'm having the same problem with outlook.exe. I know that it installs in 5 or 6 places in the system...but i can't find all of them
I even uninstalled the program, defragged, rebooted & reinstalled...with the same problem coming up again
