Something went wrong. If you installed properly -- on a separate
partition -- you would get a menu at bootup that would allow you to choose
which OS to boot to.

Apparently, that's not what you did. It's possible you upgraded, or maybe
you wiped the drive and installed a clean version of XP, or maybe you
installed XP into the same partition as your old ME install, and messed it
up badly.

As for how you boot to ME again, it depends entirely on what you did, but
chances are it's not something you're going to easily recover from. First,
you need to figure out what you did, though.

By the sounds of it you installed Windows XP over top of Windows ME.
Both operating systems use a Windows folders, so if you installed WinXP
to the same hard drive with one partition you overwrote all the windows
me files replacing it with your new OS.

OS's must be installed from oldest to newest on seperate partitions.
Only way around this would be to change the installation path, such as
installing windows xp to say a folder called winxp.

If you did what I'm guessing you'll have to erase everything and start
all over again.

Windows XP should have detected the old os though and may have actually
asked you to upgrade. If this is true it may appear in your add/remove
programs. You can uninstall windows XP and try again.

my windows me is in this directory C://winme . my windows xp is in C://winxp
and im sure i followed the win xp setup ok but i was not sure to convert
from fat32 to ntfs i kept my fat32 becouse setup said "if you convert your
hdd to ntfs your old os may not work propaly" or something like that.

hmm, well as far as I know it's always a good idea to load your os's
from different partitions.

What I would do then is check your boot.ini file. Its in the root, but
you can access it from System properties, advanced, startup and
performance, if both os's are listed, that's a good sign, and maybe all
you have to do is click the box and setting a delay for which os to start.

If it isn't you'll have to manually enter in what is suppose to be there
and unfortunately I don't happen to have a ME system on hand, so I have
no idea what its suppose to be.

By the way Winxp is a NT os and WinME isn't. Had you converted it'd
definately not work. Good think you hesitated eh? :)

Anyways, I'll be gone the next two days or so, but if nobody has helped
you, I can pop into where I work and load up a ME image and see what the
boot.ini file is suppose to say then I can tell you what to change it to.
