I dont know why this is happening but I keep on getting an error
message while using the Multi_AV.EXE program. I didnt get this error
message while using the older version. For some reason that I am
unaware of this error message comes up no matter which menu selection I
use. The error message is as follows.

Wget ftp://updates2.kaspersky-labs.com/updates.ext/avg.klb
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD Virtual
Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose "close" to
terminate the application

Any help would be greatly apprecaited...

Thanks

The only Muti-AV.EXE I know of is David Lipman's creation, and I doubt
if he reads this newsgroup. Post your q. on alt.comp.virus

I suggest that you supply info such as which version of Windows,
whether or not a firewall is involved, whether wget fails when
downloading updates other than for KAVDOS32 (apparently it
did fail while downloading KAV updates?), etc. The more details
you supply the better chance you have of getting some resolution.

As a side note, what happened to KASFX ?
And do you know of any replacement options?

Here's a paste of a post I made several days back on the virus groups:

****************************************************
Some users reported failures of the KASFX av scanner utility I had up
at my web site. Yesterday, I experienced the same. Apparently, one or
more of the .KEY license files have expired. So that's the end of
that, so far as I'm concerned. I've withdrawn the KASFX d/l from my
web site.

A bit of history and explanation. KASFX was based on a older version
of the free MWAV offering from MicroWorld. That older version had a
clean/delete capability. It uses the Kaspersky scan engine. I added a
updater, and arranged my KASFX util to act as a emergency scanner,
whereby when first run it auto-updated and then invoked the av
scanner.

Later versions of the free MicroWorld offering did not and do not
have the clean/delete capability. MicroWorld charges a monthly fee
for such a version. While I've been willing to stretch ethical limits
by offering the older free version, I want no part of messing with or
transferring license keys. I encourage users to quit using the older
expired version.

Note that there are other free emergency scan approaches using
the Kaspersky engine. Kaspersky offers a free online scan. Dave
Lipman's Muti-AV has a Kaspersky scan option using using KAVDOS32.

Thanks Art, it all makes sense now.
Shame though, it was a very nice no install scanner.
