Multi-user locked out in workgroup

In a workgroup environment there are 5 users of a mdb file of about 1GB.
Until recently they could click on the mdb across the lan, but for a few
weeks have been locked out when the file is already open. However they can
start Access and open the file from the menu. They just lost the
convenience of clicking on the mdb. Any idea why the file would become
locked from one mode of opening and not the other? (Maybe I could create a
shortcut to start the program with the file as a parameter, but then I
wouldn't know the cause of the problem.)

Hi, Tom.

An Internet Explorer setting has been changed, likely due to a software
update or upgrade. To fix it, add the local Intranet to the trusted sites
on each workstation.

This works, as long as the full path to the MSAccess.exe executable is used
for the target and the full path to the database file.

Thanks a lot. I remember this causing problems elsewhere but didn't make
the connection. Although sharing and locking wasn't a factor in that case.

You're welcome. This wasn't a problem with multiuser Access databases until
about 1 1/2 years ago, so I suspect it was an added "feature" from either a
Microsoft Office update or a Windows update about that time. Still, it's
not very common.
