I have old linksys router. I used the linksys automated program to let the
computer set up router for me automatically. It worked fine and everything
works as it should. However, I noticed that the mtu setting was set for
"disabled." I changed it to 1500 and enabled.

But should I have?

What did Linksys Support say when your asked them?

An MTU of 1500 is typically used for a high speed "cable" connection
(or local area network).

For PPoE, MTU is normally 1492.

Best to check with your ISP before making changes.
