MsWord should correct all spelling errors without asking to confirm since it
more ofthen than not has the correct word suggestion. It then should
underline the corrected word, and when you float over it with your mouse
pointer it changes the word, or shows, into the original and showing you a
new pulldonw menu or so with all the possible other suggestions. And if you
want to change any one, you just click on it and change it by selecting
another suggestion or start typing the new word.

If you want spelling corrections to be automatic, check the box for
"Automatically use suggestions from the spelling checker" in Tools |
AutoCorrect (Options). Correction will occur only when there is just one
suggestion. But even this can be dangerous, and I'd advise against it.

I emphatically disagree.

What you are suggesting is more or less the opposite of what Word does
already. It points out the word not in the dictionary and offers suggestions.

The majority of what Word deems to be a spelling error for me is indeed a
correctly spelled word so I would NOT want Word to attempt to automatically
correct it for me. As Suzanne mentioned, AutoCorrect does help in this area.

Personally I think users simply need to do is learn to spell and not reply
on an computer to do it for them.

<soapbox> Good grief, we already have large number of people in this society
who can't perform basic math calculations without a calculator. Combine that
with the inability to spell then we'll end up with a bunch of illiterate
people. </soapbox>

(Chiming in a wee bit late here) I will only add that spellchecker has saved
my career, and it was only recently (well, a couple versions ago) that the
Office spellchecker stopped me from discussing castrated goats when I *meant*
to be using a conjunction denoting alternatives (wether vs. whether). <g>
