Is there a way or program to find the color settings for a picture? If so,
how can it be changed?

I'm trying to import a picture into a program and it requires the pic to be
640x480 (which it is) and 16/256 color. It reads the picture fine and knows
that the pic is the correct size but says that the color is 24bit<<<-----
therefore not accepting it because of this.

Any help would greatly be appreciated. If this is not the correct forum to
post this question, please direct me to the right one. Thanks.

MSPaint is extremely primitive. I think the only way you can achieve
this is to first save the file as a GIF (to get it to 256 color) and
then back to your preferred format.

The free Paint.NET http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/ or IrfanView
programs will give you more control over these parameters.

Hi Mike,

I do have paint.net and I'll try your suggestion. Thanks! I will post back
results.

Mike,

It did not work :-( I saved the pic as a gif first, then "save as" a bmp
and still nothing.

Open the image in Paint. Then File - > Save as.... -> Save as Type: 256 color bitmap

Thank Keith, I'll give that a try.
