MSOS cannot load drivers for cd roms...(missing or corrupt)

Hello. I am running windows xp pro. I am having a problem that I cannot seem to solve.
A short time ago I installed Daemon Tools & Fanthom cd om my computer.
(for burning ISO files on a fathom drive to try and save on discs)
Didn't like using them, so I uninstalled them. But on reboot my other
(2) drives, actual drives.(sony dvd-rom DDU1621 and PleWriter 16/10/40A)
no longer showed up. I followed the Trouble shooting guide....
tried the MS download site..(messaged me...no updates needed)
i tried uninstal..reinstall.... the soft and the hardware.
Still the same problem persists. In Device Manager
it shows the (2) drives with yellow exclamation marks by their side.
On Properties.Devive Drivers for both: 5.1.2535.0 are signed.
by Microsoft and do appear. But in the Device Status Window, this message...
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
.......I get the same message with the hardware wizard when i try to reinstall.
as for getting the drivers from microsoft or a third party. The one update i did find for Plextor ran..with an error message..
"cannot locate ROM."..So...if there is annyone outhere who can make any sort of sense
to this problem I would greatly appreciate it.

(i need to get those drivers or driver replaced..and my system to reinstall the good ones....and then my system to recognize all again......i think.) anyway if anyone takes this on and comes up with something. thx. again

....I tried system restore..unfortunately the computer had done a system checkpoint and wiped out anything
earliar than the uninstall
Both drives have power, and the floppy at the end of the S.cable works fine. It seems the OS can't locate the CD-ROM Drivers. (or finds them corrupted) If you read the properties of both drives, they are both run by a MS. driver.. ...#5.1.2535.0. I have no clue as of yet as how to repair this problem...is there a way to check or up-date whats on your main S.cable
