I would like to uninstall or delete MSN Messenger but when
I do a search it doesn't show up anywhere. It is not in
the ADD/REMOVE programs, so I can not uninstall it. But
it is there because daily I have friends who see me
connect and start to chat with me. I noticed this
question came up yesterday. If I could uninstall it I
would. Please tell me 1. how to find it 2. how to
delete/uninstall it. Must I uninstall Internet Explorer???
This is beyond annoying! Please help!

go to the windows messenger or msn messenger options (TOOLS/OPTIONS)
then go to the general tab and disable start with windows option. Then
if you have norton antivirus, go to options, then instant messenger,
then disable it to protect msn messenger.

good luck

I appreciate your advice BUT if I do a search for windows
messenger OR msn messenger neither program shows up so I
can not go to OPTIONS. If I find the program by clicking
on the link from Internet Explorer, the program opens to
read Windows Messenger but there is no general tab under
TOOLS/OPTION so I can not disable it. I have tried
downloading the program and then uninstalling it but that
did not work either. What next?

The options are in the dialog you see on the preferences tab. You really shouldn't throw your hands in the air but have a look around. Anyway congrats on a reasonable problem statement, not many manage that.

Type in Start Run
rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
to uninstall messenger

Double Click My Computer
Double Click Control Panel
Double Click Add/Remove Programs
Select the Windows Setup tab
Select Communications
Click Details
Uncheck MSN Messenger Service
Hit OK
Hit OK

It has alredy been said that this is for Windows Messenger (which it is)

Windows Messenger is different from MSN Messenger
