I logged on to Messenger today and I was asked if I wanted to download the
latest version 6.1 (no more info) but I already have version (6.1.0203)
installed!

Can anyone tell me if the version that I'm being asked to download is newer
than the above version, or should I just ignore it and continue with what
I've got?

Thanks in advance.

6.1.0207 is current.
so it is prompting you to install a slightly new version ... less bugs ?

Thanks for that Louis.

I actually tried to find the version Information by searching with google
and even on the MSN Messenger download page but could not find it, could you
tell where I would find it for future reference.

PS. I know where to find the info after I've installed messenger
(Help/About) Its finding it before I download it I need to know. :0)

well, you can download the installer; SetupDl.exe, then open it with WinRAR,
extract MsnMsgs.msi, open that with WinRAR, then extract msnmsgrexe.XXXXXXX,
and then choose properties on that, and you will see the version.

My mother has the same issue. If she says "Okay, go ahead, upgrade" than a
message says there'e no need because she already has the new version. The
message keeps popping up.

I installed 6.1 later and I have no problem. I did notice that the msi of
version 6.1 offered for download today is slightly different than the one
that was offered a couple of weeks ago. I am still to try this but I think
it will be fixed if you just remove your current version and reinstall the
latest.

Martin.

Greetings Martin,

The easiest thing to do is to simply download and install the latest version from here:
http://messenger.msn.com/Download

The latest version of 6.1 is 6.1.0207, so if you have a previous version to that, it's
recommended that you upgrade, as .0207 has a number of fixes for problems in the previous
6.1 versions.
