When I start XP Pro I get an error pop-up box (which is
dismissable) -

'The procedure entry point DispatcxMessageW could not be
located in the dynamic link library USER32.DLL'

I'm running McAffee AV v8.0.26 (engine: 4.3.20). Any
connection between Messenger and McAffee?

Thnx.

Try to re-install MSN Messenger. And make sure that you have the latest
version (6.1).

Also, does McAfee have any function that searches and scans Instant Message
programs? (I know NAV has)

Messenger 8 loads msmsgs.exe even when you have disabled
windows messenger 4.7. If you look in messenger-tools-
options-messages you will see a tick in the box to scan
files using the virus checker. Even if you untick this
it will come back on the next time you look. According
to McAfee this is a feature that you can't disable
this !!! I have asked Jonathan Kay to look into it for
us and am awaiting an answer ???

Following the suggestions below and a few other threads,
I got rid of the error pop-up by downloading and
installing the latest Messenger and then disabling it on
startup of Windows.

Thanks all!!

But this doesn't stop msmsgs.exe loading in the
background?

Also you still can't untick the option to virus check in
messenger-tools-options-messages ?
