I recently installed Vista, about two weeks ago. I have XP on another drive.
I like being able to go back if something does not work. Its helps with the
transition. After all, that's why we chose technology, it makes life easier.
Just like chemistry.

I noticed that my system does not have a msinfo.exe file. I don't know if it
ever existed. I've been told I have to reinstall Vista again. Does anyone
know if this is true. Does anyone know how to recreate the file. I did check
on my XPSP2 (media Center). It's gone there, as well. I know it was on XP.
I've looked all over the net for a resolution. It does not sound like an easy
task to create it. Anyone know how I can get it back on one or both of the
systems?
Thanks

The only "msinfo.exe" I'm aware of is malware (Gator advertising); are
you thinking of msconfig.exe?

Microsoft System Information utility is Msinfo32.exe.

MSINFO.EXE is not a legitimate Windows system file.

Sorry, I guess I was not clear on the msinfo.exe. Its the system information
file located in the system32 file. It has all the staqs on the computer. Try
typeing msinfo.exe in the the START---> search search (in vista at the
bottom, below all programs.) System Information link will be a selection in
the upper left. In XP try START--->RUN--->type in "msinfo.exe" and the System
Information will display therr, if you have it.

No such file exists in my system. Google search indicates that Office 95 includes the msinfo.exe tool. Whereas Msinfo32.exe is included by default with the Operating System. The executable is present under this folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo
Microsoft System Information Version 7.0 (Windows XP)

C:\Windows\System32
Microsoft System Information Version 8.0 (Windows Vista)
