msi installer

when i try to either uninstall nortons 2006 internet security or install
nortons 2007 anti virus i get the same msg " the msi installer has been
disabled via group policy please change group policy before attempting this
again" I am using a four year old computer using xp with sp2 installed how do
i change the group policy and what is group policy i thought group policy was
for administaitors of a network help

Is this computer joined to a domain?
 
Hi,

Have you checked this policy (Start => Run and type in
"gpedit.msc" {without the quotes})

Computer Configuration
Administrative Templates
Windows Components
Windows Installer

Right-click and set to 'Not Configured'.

msg says windows cannot find 'gpedit.msc' make sure you typed...........to search for it click start,search etc
 
by the way i am using xp home
i can put xp pro on another partition and try would that help

gpedit.msc is not available in xp home.

so any ideas on how to proceed with installing nortons antivirus 2007 the
symantec people said it is a windows problem and couldn't offer any more help
help please
