"Supplementing its traditional distribution channels, Microsoft announced
last night that it will make Windows Vista and the 2007 Office System
available for purchase and download through the Windows Marketplace online
store.
For more details, see this AP story from today's newspaper. A company
representative said yesterday that the typical download time for Windows
Vista will be three to four hours over a high-speed connection. The company
offers a feature for resuming downloads if they're interrupted.
In addition, Microsoft announced the prices for people who decide to upgrade
to more-advanced versions of Windows Vista after making initial purchases.
It also detailed plans for a "family discount" incentive program that it
will offer to try to get people to install Windows Vista on multiple
computers in the home. The Windows Vista team blog has more information on
all the announcements.
See a related post by Microsoft Watch's Joe Wilcox, who questions the
approach the company is taking with the family discount program. And Mary Jo
Foley has additional information on the Windows Vista download option."
