msdos startup disk with xp

I made a msdos startup disk the way windows said, when I
try to boot from the disks it gives me an error mesage.
The mesage says I O error change disk and press any
key.Some of the other commands in dos don't work
(tasklist). I think I have a corupted msdos boot sector.
Any ideas on how to fix it? thanks joe
