I have a question:

Where does the MSCONFIG utility get its entrys from? Can they be gotten to
in a text editor?

The entries come from various parts of the registry and you could find them
by running regedit. If you're looking for a better tool to disable registry
entries you might look here:

http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

There you'll find Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel which is freeware and
does a very good job at allowing you to edit your startup applications.

No.Run MSINFO32.EXE and export the data via File > Export for example
to transfer this information (available under Software Environment >
Startup Programs)ö.

Man, that looks like a great program, but I don't understand the diff tween
the startup control panel and the 'stand alone' version. Which should I get?

The stand alone version runs all by itself while the other one will install
and give you a handy icon in the control panel. I'd use the regular version
instead of the stand alone version as it's something that I keep on my
system. It's free and doesn't give you the messages about running in
selective mode on startup. :)
