I would like to remove a start up item (newdot2....) but do not know how.
This is causing me to get a rundll error I think. If I just disable it, I get
another window popping up saying I am not running the normal startup
Uninstall any existing versions of the following programs, reboot and then
delete their folders too, if they still exist, and then go get and then
update and then run each of these:

If you need an antivirus utility, you can get one here. Note that you have
to respond to email in order to obtain its activation code.

I've noticed operational problems with SpywareGuard on many, but not all, XP
machines after some of the last SP1 updates (apparently also included in
SP2) are applied and so my suggestion is to fully uninstall it. It hasn't
had its database updated in untold ages anyhow, I think. I used to recommend
its usage, but no more. And its functionality is covered by the "resident"
utilities within Spybot anyway, so be sure to activate both of them during
its installation, and be sure to use its inoculation feature too. Use the
dropdown menu (top of screen) before updating Spybot to select some other
server than the default one, which is often unavailalbe, to obtain the
updates for Spybot from.
Further questions regarding malware and spyware are best addressed to the

newsgroup instead of to this one, it's very active and the people there are
sincerely knowlegable as relates to proper removal procedures for malware or
spyware such as newdot.
