MSCONFIG Flashing and then disappearing

I was trying to debug XP using msconfig and when I would
start it it would flash on the screen and then close
immediately. What could be causing this and how do I fix
it? Thanks

There are several known viruses that cause this effect.

Make certain your antivirus software is completely up to date, with
the virus definitions not more than a week old, and do a complete scan
of your computer.

Also get a "second opinion". Download Stinger (free) from
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger or do a free online virus scan at
http://housecall.trendmicro.com

If the virus checks come up clean then check the computer for spyware.
Go to http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm and do the quick online
check (link in the left side column) and then follow the steps listed
in the "quick fix" section.
