When I try to log out from one user in XP a window appears showing MSBL Net
Conn not responding.
Whatever I do XP will not log out properly, I need to press the restart
button to get any response.
Can any of you clever guys (or gals) help?
Using XP Home Edition SP2.

Didn't you also post this to windowsxp.help_and_support? When posting to
more than one newsgroup don't multipost, sending the same message separately
to each group. You should crosspost, sending the same message to each group
at the same time. Multiposting is counterproductive, leads to duplication
of effort and usually results in you getting less help.

The web interface that you used to access what are actually Usenet
newsgroups is awful; one of the many reasons is you cannot crosspost with
it. I recommend you use a newsreader to access these newsgroups. XP comes
with Outlook Express which can be set up for this purpose. Here is a
article on how to do that. The experience is much better using a
newsreader.

For your problem, is the system clean of malware? Here is a link with info
on how to make sure.

Once you know the system is clean, if the problem is still there, do some
clean boot troubleshooting.

Thank you, Rock, for your assistance.

I found that simply running Spybot cleared the problem, without the need to
carry out further troubleshooting - which I must confess I felt uneasy about
carrying out effectively.

I use AVG all the time. I have Zone Alarm running behind a hardware
firewall of my router. I ran McAfee recently - it always seems a good idea
to used something completely different from time to time to see if anything
comes out of the woodwork. But I had neglected to run Spybot for a while.
Silly me.

I did indeed post to two groups, and wrote as such in the second posting.

The web interface I used is Internet Explorer - a Microsoft product designed
to wander around the internet to find what is needed. In this instance I
think it was effective. Thank you for your advice on an alternative method.
I had not and do not intend to be a habitual reader of this group, so have
not followed your advice on this point. Hopefully problems will occur rarely
and I will probably struggle by with what I am familiar with.

Microsoft invited me to complete a feedack survey, which I did, pointing out
some of the difficulties facing a novice user of this service.

Kind regards

You're welcome. Glad it's resolved now.

I know what internet explorer is. The web interface to which I refer, is
the interface for accessing what are actually Usenet newsgroups. It can be
done with any browser, not just IE.

Hehe. "Hopefully problems will occur rarely..", he says. In any event next
time you post please do not multipost. Choose one newsgroup. If it's
appropriate to send to more than one newsgroup, do it by crossposting, and
to do so you need to be using a newsreader.
