I'm not the brightest apple in the basket with some of
this stuff, as in reading all the technical issues
associated with some of the patches.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, & need to know IF I
should download the above patch or not. Whether I'm
running 64 Bit Color? I don't know, but it makes mention
through some of the writings about this.

I'm assuming that this has to do with these derndable pop
ups I & everyone else gets while on line?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have already checked the system & okay, Virus wise,
Firewall wise, etc..........

Thanks again,

Some other people have your same question, so this is
definitely something to hold off on.

Subject: Possibly damaging bulletin

Hello

I was just in my yahoo emial account and I received what
was claimed to be a Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-043.
Buffer overrun in Messenger Service Could Allow Code
Execution (828035)

This Bulletin was sent out about 4 or 5 months ago so I
don't know why I am receiving it now. That fine but it
said to download a patch from a website that is not the one
I just downloaded this patch from. So I am wondering if it
is trying to get me to download a potentially damaging file.

The website is: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Please forward this information to the proper persons to
have it checked out. I could not find a way to do this so
I am only going to leave this message here.

Thank You.

Yes, you should download and install Ms03-043.

You can download it from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-043.asp

Select the one listed as "Microsoft Windows XP Gold, Service Pack 1".

For a Windows XP computer, take a look at this post for what
security updates you at least should download and for a
recommended install sequence:

http://groups.google.com/[email protected]

You can (should) also use the Windows Update page to keep
your computer up to date:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

No, Installing Ms03-043 will not stop any pop ups.

Hi Jupiter -

First, thanks so much for your information here, I do
appreciate it.

But yes, that is what I wanted to know also, as to what
bit color my system is, in which you have stated it is 32
not 64.........

Somehow when reading MS Download instructions or Tech
info. on this, it mentioned 64 bit, for people to download
this patch. But I will go look again.

Thank you again.......

Hi Torgeir,

Thank you for your reply post to my question, still a bit
confusing, but you have made it more understandable for
me. I did go look at the page @Google you gave me, & have
bookmarked it.

I don't understand the Windows XP Gold one though that you
recommend I use, I didn't realize this system was "Gold"
one....

But anyway, I will take a better look in a little while at
the Google Page, & will try to get some of these
downloaded, I have, I thought kept up pretty well, but
have had some people tell me unless I'm having problems,
not to download everythig, & then too, like other's there
are so many in the list to do.

Thanks again so much,

Dee

At the download page, one download link is marked with
"Microsoft Windows XP Gold, Service Pack 1".

XP Gold is the original version of Windows XP, with no service pack
installed. What the download link text indicates is that the download
is for all current versions of Windows XP Pro/Home.

But anyway, I will take a better look in a little while at

You should always install critical security updates...
