MS Word locks up computer when loading.

I was running MS Office 97. I upgraded to Office 2000 a while ago but had
trouble with MS Word so I uninstalled it. I installed it again today and I
cannot open Word. Excel and Power Point work fine but Word will not load and
ends up locking up my system. I am getting very frustrated with it. I have
plenty of room on my hard drive and have 512K RAM. Help!!!
