I'm working with someone who is compiling documents on a CD for review by
other colleagues. We are using Word 2003 documents, but are unsure what the
system and Word versions the recipients have. (they are located in different
states, etc)

Are Word 2003 documents viewable in older versions/systems? What about
compatability PC to Mac? (we are using a PC) And, can they be opened using
other word processing software?

Thanks!

In Word 2003, you can go to Tools, Options, Save, check the "Disable
features introduced after" button and pick the version of Word you want to
be sure to be compatible with.

As for compatibility with other word-processing software, this will always
be an iffy proposition. The following article deals with WordPerfect, but
the same general principles apply for any other software.

WordPerfect to Word converters (and why none of them are
perfect)
