Hi, 3 years ago I purchased a new PC with a full version
of Microsoft Windows 98.
I have now purchased a new up to date PC with no
operating system, and wonderd if I could install
microsoft windows 98 and then upgrade to windows XP, or
would buying the full version be better? The PC I am
buying is from a small computer store and will be picked
up next weeek. Please can you offer any advice.

Many thanks

You may be best advised to ask the store to supply you with an OEM Version of
Windows XP - SP1 of course.

This will be cheaper than buying an Upgrade Version and much cheaper than a
Full Retail Version.

The OEM Version does not permit you to migrate to a new Processor
environment or change to a different hard drive, but should serve you well
for a few years, and also allow for SP2 to be installed no problems.

Why does OEM version not permit to migrate to a new processor environment or
change to a different hard drive?
