MS virtual machine v. Java and IE 6

When I try to view a web page that requires use of a virtual machine, I get a prompt stating that I need to load the MS Virtual Machine. I then click on the download button, which directs me to a MS web site that states the MS virtual machine is no longer available and that I should get one from the Java website. I then click on the Java website and download the free Java software. However, after rebooting, Internet Explorer 6 doesn't seem to recognize that the Java virtual machine is available. I've gone to the "internet options" tab and I've clicked "advanced", and I've enabled the Java button found there, but IE still doesn't grab the Java software (I still get the original error message that the MS Virtual machine is not loaded). How do I fix this? I have Windows XP Home Edition.

You can download MSVM from the following link. If you choose this over the
Sun JAVA, after you install, go to Windows Update and download the security
patch.
