Dear All,

I recently moved into Word 2007 but could not find the "Microsoft Picture"
when I tried to insert an "Object." I wonder if it is becuase the
administrator forgot to select it (maybe not in the default ones). The MS
Picture Object is very important to me. Please help me check it out. Many
thanks.

PS: Actually, when I cut and "paste special" a picture, there is no "MS
Picture" option either.

Edit > paste special > as a picture is context sensitive. Word (including
earlier versions) only gives the paste options are available relative to the
item on the clipboard. This is easy to verify. Copy a few words of text to
the clipboard and paste special. You will get the widest variety of paste
options. Copying and pasting pictures from (say) the internet are best
inserted in html format - and even better saved to the hard drive and
inserted.

As for the picture - insert > picture seems to be the most logical means of
inserting pictures in a document. And you should have insert > object >
bitmapped image (and create from file available.)

Dear Graham,

Thank you very much for your input. I understand what you said. However,
"insert>picture" is not the same as "insert>object>MS picture." By doing the
second one, first , I can add/modify the pictures/figures; Second, I can put
many picturs/texts/tables together so that they can be scaled easily later on
if needed.

My question is that "does the Word 2007 still have this option or not?"
which is actually included in the older versions. Thank you again for your
response. More inputs are welcome.

Insert Object is found in the Insert Tab, on the Text Group. From there you
can choose to insert Text from a File or Create New (for some reason on my
computer the first screen in the Create New is full of blank lines - but
then when you scroll down the list, I found image and other graphic
options.)

Dear Dawn

Thank you for your response. I did not mean that I could not locate the
"Insert Object" but just the ""Microsoft Word Picture " under the options of
"Insert>Object" is missing. I did find many other things such as graphic
chart and power point slide, etc. Could you please check if you have that
option there? Thanks again.

I don't think there ever was a "Microsoft Word Picture" in the insert menu. Word
never has produced pictures that I know of. Paste special still has different
choices if the image is a vector or raster.

Hello Mary,

If you have an older version (2000 or 2003), you can try "insert>object>".
The "Microsoft Word Picture" will be in the list of options. I have used it
for years and I really like it. That is why I want to see how it works in
2007. Thank you any way.

I just tried that in Word 2003. Very weird. I didn't try to do anything with
it, but when I clicked Close Picture, the File Properties dialog came up
with the name of a temp file. It's not *entirely* unlike the drawing canvas,
I suspect; at least the Drawing toolbar is displayed automatically. How does
it compare, in your experience, with Insert | Picture | New Drawing?

This is not something I do personally, but on checking the option is not
available in Word 2003 either.
I prefer to edit my graphics files outside Word. As for manipulating a
combination of graphics as one, you need to investigate the drawing canvas.

I do have the option in Word 2003, perhaps as a result of having restored
Microsoft Photo Editor 3.0 from Office XP (which causes me untold grief
every time I try to update Office 2003, as I keep being offered updates for
Office XP as well).

That is my original question. I wonder if we need to select an option for
the object "Microsoft Word Picture" during installation of 2007 (if it is
still there). It may appear due to other applications. This object became
worse in Word 2003 than in 2000. Now it is totally gone. Hope somehow we
can get it back. Please check and let me know if anybody's 2007 has it.
Many thanks.
