When I install MS Office (2000), MS Outlook appears on the desktop.

I would rather not have it there.

It seems it's the program itself, not just a shortcut, so I can't simply
delete it.

Any suggestions for how I can move/hide it?

Thank you.

Use Windows Explorer to copy and paste it to Program Files.

Thanks - should it go anywhere in particular under Program Files?

I note that OUTLOOK.EXE already exists in C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office

Put it in the same folder as the one that you already have. It will ask you
if you want to replace that one. Say Yes if the one that you are pasting is
newer, else say No. If No or the dates are the same you can then safely
delete it from the desktop.

The Icon is a Namespace, you need to modify the registry.

Navigate to this location in the registry:

[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace]
or
[HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace]

Then delete the key called:

{00020d75-0000-0000-c000-000000000046}

Then log off and log on for the changes to take effect.

I would **strongly** recommend you back up the
"{00020d75-0000-0000-c000-000000000046}" key first. Simply right-click on
"{00020d75-0000-0000-c000-000000000046}" and choose export. If you need to
use the backed up registration file then simply right-click the backed up
file to select Merge.

Really.

Hi William,

thanks for this, although it seems slightly convoluted, given that the
icon can be deleted via 'Delete' in the context menu.

I was under the misapprehension that this would delete the whole
application, which isn't the case, as it turns out.
