Hello All,

I backed up my MS Outlook inbox / sent items as .pst and now find the CD and
/or the pst file is corrupt. I contacted a friend and he has also had a
similar problem with his .pst files in the past. The file is 250mb but when
imported is blank. I copied 5 .pst files on to a CD and 2 appear corrupt or
inoperable so I think its the .pst.

Can anyone recommend the best method to backup my MS Outlook folders. I've
searched the internet and found reports of .pst issues and not many fixes.

I have considered copying and pasting the emails into a location on the hard
drive, however this makes viewing the emails difficult as they cannot be
previewed before being opened.

I'd appreciate any advise or guidance on this matter.

TIA

1) Close Outlook and make sure it's completely closed. Use Task manager's
Processes tab to look, if need be.
2) Copy the PST using Windows Explorer or a command line COPY command to
some medium, like CD. I typically use the built-in CD burning option of
Windows. I do NOT use a third party tool like Nero or Roxio. I have heard
of those apps ruining files if the burn isn't done exactly correct.
3) Restore by copying the PST back to Hard Drive from CD and removing the
Read-Only attribute.
4) Open in Outlook with File>Open>Outlook Data File. At NO TIME should you
export or import.
5) Enjoy your restored data.

or

1) Install Microsoft's Personal Folders Backup utility
2) Configure same to backup on the schedule you wish
3) Close Outlook and let the PFBACKUP utility do its work
4) Place the copied PST on a non-volitile medium, if you wish.
5) Restore as above, if necessary.
