Thank you for the replies, they were partially helpful, I thought it would be
possible to run it in Vista, but how do I get a different product key. The
key I have came with the software that I had installed on my old pc which was
windows xp.

It just won't instal because the key cannot find xp on my new pc. What am I
to do.

Many thanks for you help

is this an OEM version of office? (oem means a preinstalled version that
came with a computer)

if it is a normal version and not OEM, it doesnt care if you have XP or
Vista...

only if that OEM came preinstalled on an older pc perhaps it might ask for
some product key..
although I have no way to be sure of this, since I have never used an OEM
version...
(preinstalled)

IF it is an upgrade version, you'll need the CD from an older version to
verify you have it.
It should ask for the CD.
IF is a full version, it should install w/o problems - I have Office 2003
w/Vista Ultimate and
I've had no issues.

The
key I have came with the software that I had installed on my old pc which
was
windows xp.

The product key is not OS specific. Change the properties of the setup.exe
file by right clicking on it in Explorer, selecting the Compatibility tab
and checking Run as XP Pro SP2 and Run as Administrator. Then run the
setup.exe file and it should install just fine.
It just won't instal because the key cannot find xp on my new pc. What am
I
to do.

Do what I said above. The key doesn't "look" for any specific OS.
