This may not be an XP specific question, but with Outlook Express, I cannot
dis-associate MS Messenger from Outlook Express. I kind of remember a
promt during installation asking about this, but now I can't find a way to
unlink
these to. I don't always want to login to MS Messenger when I check my
mail.

thanks,

Greg

Sorry to inform you there is no easy way of removing it without purging it
from the system.

Someone introduced me to a handy VBS script.

It completely disables Windows Messenger in XP, cutting it from OE.

The process cannot be reversed.

So you would have to install a new IM such as MSN Messenger 6.

This file can be found as a file on my website (it is safe), you may scan it
if you like.

On the Tools->Options->General tab, uncheck the 4th item to
automatically log on to Windows Messenger. In Windows Messenger,
Tools->Options->Preferences tab, uncheck start Messenger when Windows
starts.

Thanks!!! Worked great... Not sure how I missed it, but I guess
when you look at some of these screens you miss the obvious.

thanks again!!
