When I try to load some programmes ,the message "this file is
not suitable for running MS-DOS" appears. Checked support. Microsoft but
none of the solutions appear to remedy the problem. Using windows xp home
edition,SP2.Not terribly genned up on computers but anyone with a simple
solution ?. Suspect the problem to be associated with the up-grade to SP2 &
the extra security, but have tried the programmes on a laptop also with SP2 &
all works fine.

Thanks

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit
Windows-based program

Also can be caused by a Trojan installing a file windupdater.exe and
creating registry entries for that file.

AVAST (free antivirus software) can be the cause if SP2 is installed:

You can put back the standard version of autoexec.nt by copying a backup
copy held in windows\repair to windows\system32.
