Larry,

go to your command prompt.... C:\>
and keyin "D:" and then [enter]

this switches you to the D: drive, the display should show ..... D:\>

Your dir command should then show you whats on the d: drive.

Alternativly use explorer, its probably easier.

To get back to C just keyin C: and [enter] etc etc for however many
drive/partitions you have

SCANDISK.LOG is a good indication that Windows 98 is on D:. SCANDISK.LOG is
created by the ScanDisk program to record the result of the most recent disk
scan.

Scandisk does not exist on Windows XP. There is also a Windows folder on
D:.

Are you wanting to get rid of 98 or what?

Thanks for your reply. I want to format my D:\ , but dont think i can if
the win 98 is on D:\ right? I have my win. 98 cd-rom (think it is a full
version) and xp upgrade version of xp and a new retail full version of xp
with sp2. Seems like there would be some way to get it installed to where i
could start with a formmatted C:\ and D:\.
Well any ideas would be appreciated

Larry,

Windows XP is on C:, right?

And apparently Windows 98 is on D:?

And you want to be able to dual boot? To have the option to boot into XP or
98?

Or you just want to format D: and get rid of windows 98?

You do not need to have Windows 98 installed on your computer just because
Windows XP is and upgrade CD. In fact you could wipe the entire drive and
still be able to install the upgrade version of XP as long as you have the
Windows 98 CD.

<quote>
9. If you are using the upgrade version of XP on a computer without any
version of Windows currently installed, this is where you will replace the
XP CD with your qualifying CD, XP setup will scan the qualifying CD and
instruct you to replace it with the XP CD to continue XP setup; otherwise,
you will not see this screen. Clean install qualifying media can be any of
the following Win NT3.51, 4.0, 2000,Win 95, 98, Me.

Larry,

go to your command prompt.... C:\>
and keyin "D:" and then [enter]

this switches you to the D: drive, the display should show ..... D:\>

Your dir command should then show you whats on the d: drive.

Alternativly use explorer, its probably easier.

To get back to C just keyin C: and [enter] etc etc for however many
drive/partitions you have

<quote>

Thanks for your reply. I want to format my D:\ , but dont think i can if
the win 98 is on D:\ right? I have my win. 98 cd-rom (think it is a full
version) and xp upgrade version of xp and a new retail full version of xp
with sp2. Seems like there would be some way to get it installed to
where i could start with a formmatted C:\ and D:\.
Well any ideas would be appreciated

SCANDISK.LOG is a good indication that Windows 98 is on D:.
SCANDISK.LOG is created by the ScanDisk program to record the result of
the most recent disk scan.

Scandisk does not exist on Windows XP. There is also a Windows folder on
D:.

Are you wanting to get rid of 98 or what?

Thanks for your reply. I want to format my D:\ , but dont think i can if
the win 98 is on D:\ right?

If you're currently running WinXP, and that OS is not residing on D:,
then you can certainly format D:. Doing that will destroy all data
stored on that partition, of course.
I have my win. 98 cd-rom (think it is a full
version) and xp upgrade version of xp and a new retail full version of xp
with sp2. Seems like there would be some way to get it installed to where i
could start with a formatted C:\ and D:\.

I assume that XP is resident on C:. In that case, you cannot format C:
from within XP, that would be something like chopping off the limb
you're sitting on. If you *really* want to clear everything out and
start over, boot from your XP CD, and use the tools there to erase
everything and install from scratch.
