MS DOS cursor not displaying

When I load a certain program in MS DOS it functions properly but the cursor is nowhere to be seen. I've tried a number or things but cannot get the cursor to become visible. The original supplier of the software is no help. Any suggestion

Wouldn't it be easier for us if you'd tell us what MS-DOS application you're
actually using that causes the cursor to disappear?
Are you running the program in XP directly (MS DOS command prompt - CMD.EXE)
or did you also try the XP's compatibility mode?

I've just tried compatibility mode and there is no difference
