I have a user who installed Microsoft's Beta AntiSpyware program. After
installing the AntiSpyware their XP Firewall has been disabled. When we try
to turn on the XP firewall, we get an error saying that the ICS service
could not be started. When we reboot the computer we get an error "could
not run DLL program~1\newdot~1\newdot~2.dll. We have uninstalled the
AntiSpyware software, but that has not helped.

Uninstall, then reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework

Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package

Then download:

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

Hi

Please try this:

Start/Run --> cmd.exe

and then, in the command prompt, type:

netsh.exe winsock reset

and hit Enter

If that doesn't cut it, try this one

I ran the .NET Framework, but that didn't help. The NET install would run
and about 3/4 of the way through the install it would stop. It never said
completed or re-boot.

Hi,

I ran the DOS command and rebooted the computer. The Firewall still did not
work. Then I went to the URL and ran the program. It fix the Firewall, but
I am still getting the error on boot up. "RUNDLL - error loading
c:\progra~1\newdot~1\newdot~2.dll"

NEWDOT~2.DLL is related to spyware. This is serious violation of
your privacy.... your system is under security threat.
It is advisable you to scan your computer and eliminate possible threats.

What is newdot~2.dll

Download Ad-aware SE and scan your PC for the presence of spyware:

Hi

Most likely a leftover registry entry from a Spyware removal. The
spyware removal tool have removed the files, but not the registry
entry that tries to start the files at logon.

Start regedit.exe and go to the two following keys to see if you
can find any references to the newdot~1 folder:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
