Eric,
Many thanks,
I in fact had a new version installed via the Autoupdate (I think
version 2), and I could not recall the point at issue appearing
anywhere in that setup. I have now uninstalled and installed the
latest version, and again the same result.
The point I make is that an icon, as such, and not the 'Microsoft
Antispyware' thing clogging up my system tray, is clearly best. The
first reason is that it uses up less space in the tray, which as we all
know is an ever expanding piece of string these days, and the second is
that, as with the hundreds of other programs we all use on our PC's (if
we choose to show their icons in the tray), it tells you at a glance
that the program is running. As it is, if I 'close' the program (rt
click the 'Microsoft Antispyware thing), I lose it on the screen and
from the system tray, which then makes me nervous it is not running.
Yet I am told it is, i.e. simply by virtue of the install, the
real-time protection is what is running. Ok, but even so, the only way
a cautious person can then ordinarily check that is via Taskmanager.
The nub of what I am saying is that if there were an icon (at your
discretion, and normally in Options), you don't have to do that. The
icon says it is running. Furthermore, most users would like the icon
in the tray as MS Antispyware is such an important program, unlike the
vast majority of the others, that in the tray is where it should
appear.
I don't wish to appear nerdish, but I think this is important and
spoils what is otherwise a magificent piece of kit. If my analysis is
correct, I suggest to MS that they insert this option in Beta 2.
Easily done and so helpful to users who want visible reassurance.
