MRU files option in tools/options/general is greyed out, ideas?

The most recently used files check box in tools/options/general is greyed
out. I have tried using "save as" and then restarting Word, no luck. I
tried "repairing" Office via add/remove applications, no luck. I have no
desire to completely reinstall, and ideas?

This usually results from having disabled MRU lists in TweakUI.

That was exactly the problem and I figured out last night - I do, however,
really
appreciate your reply. If I had not figured it out last night I would be
going crazy
by today and your note would have returned my sanity :^)

I saw your later post after I'd posted my reply, but I let it go anyway so
that the question would not remain unanswered. Even if you no longer needed
the answer, someday ages and ages hence someone may be searching for it via
Google, and finding unanswered questions is frustrating.
