mplay32.exe vs Windows MediaPlayer

I'm putting my presentation on a CD to be played on someone else's computer. It
will be saved as PPS (to open as a slide show). I'm ready to copy the music to
the folder, then go in and insert and configure the music to what I want it and
the pres. to do.

I have been told that the old standard MCI mplay32.exe is what PowerPoint wants
to default to and I'm okay with that. However, most people have Windows Media
Player as the default player. What kind of a setting do we need to do on the
computer that is showing the slideshow so that it will go ahead and use the MCI
mplay32.exe procedure?

Or if I do it right, then will it just automatically happen, no matter which
player is the default?

Or if the other computer has Windows Media Player as default and we can use
that, what do we need to do to tell the presentation to use Windows Media Player
instead of MCI mplay32.exe?

They'll be playing the presentation in PowerPoint or the Viewer, right? The
application will use the MCI player.

Thanks, Sonia. I was pretty sure I understood it correctly. I have just sent off
a message to the person to test out mplay32.exe with a music CD to make sure his
MCI stuff is not corrupted. I'd hate to have 200 people at the kiosk think we
don't know what we're doing! (grin). Yes, he will be playing the presentation
right in PowerPoint (not sending the viewer with this one). D. Small
