I have a couple of wmv and and mpeg that I would like to load into a program
and remove a few seconds of the start of one and the end of another.
Is there any freeware that can do this?

Windows Movie Maker 2.1 makes home movies amazingly fun. With Movie Maker
2.1, you can create, edit, and share your home movies right on your
computer. Build your movie with a few simple drag-and-drops. Delete bad
shots and include only the best scenes. Then share your movie via the Web,
e-mail, or CD. Using third-party software you can even take movies you've
made and turn them into DVDs. You can also save your movie back to the video
tape in your camera to play back on a TV or on the camera itself.

I think that VirtualDub does MPEG, am unsure about WMV.

Why do you need to act like an ass?

Windows Movie Maker imports both WMV and MPG, or at least it does on my
Windows XP SP2 version (Version 5.1 Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519).
Also note the subject line.

He wasn't, he just posted in the wrong place. He meant to reply to
himself (should have)because he suggested Audacity which is a wave
editor and has nothing to do with visual files.

TMPGEnc will do what you want for both types.
File-->Mpeg Tools-->Merge and Cut

Not true. TMPGEnc will handle wmv as well.

It handles avi and mov too (with the plugin), but it still won't cut it.
converting a video , be it wmv, avi or mov, to mpeg is not the same thing
as cutting it in the original format.
