Can I use media player to open MPEG-4 video in .avi format? What kind of
codec do I need? thanks

*.avi is more generic extension, than the extension, that says what a
codec is used. What a codec is needed for any specific file -- you can
try to find using freeware Gspot utility,

Google, download, install 3ivx_d4_451_win. It works with MP4 created from
Nero recode
