MPEG not importing 99%

Hello. We have a DVD camera. I am NOT importing directly from the camera,
I have copied the files to my folder. When I import, it gets stuck at 99%.
ONly like 1 out of 15 would import. They are all the exact same file type.

Can anyone please explain (in a clear and concise way) how I overcome this
stupid obstacle? Maybe a link would be helpful or something, or just an
explanation?

This is very annoying and a very big problem.

DVD camcorders are made for those who want shoot video and pop the disc into
a DVD player to see it... they are not for those who want to routinely edit
the videos...

DVDs need MPEG-2 files and Movie Maker doesn't work with them, so you need
to do a conversion.... and sometimes not an easy one.

Check the Importing Source Files > Video > Discs page of my website.... I
explain how I do the conversions, and I've just added a link to another site
with a method and tutorial.

My son shoots on a Sony DVD camcorder and does video editing... to do the
conversions, he mails me the discs :)
 
Thank you for trying to help me BUT:

When I finalize the DVD and plug in the camera w/ USB and put the files in
my folder, I right click on them and it says MPEG. Not MPEG2. WMM only
imports SOME of them, for NO apparent reason. So obviously it can import
some, but it's just gay enough to not import 80% of my clips.
 
MPEG-2 files might say MPEG or MPG... or VOB on the disc.

One of the hardest things about MPEG-2 files and Movie Maker is that they
can seem to work... get your hopes up, and then do all sorts of quirky
things... which is why it's best to just convert them to something that
works solidly.
 
Papajohn is 100% correct (just seconding his vote)
Even though some of them did SEEM to work they likely did not actually work
as you will/would find out after trying to edit and render your project with
WMM.
Converting them to AVI is the only way to go if you want to ensure no future
problems.
