Dear MVPs,

This is a query I sent half a year ago, I think, and, it did not get any
responses. I was wondering if someone would be able to help me now.

The AVID or nonlinear editing machine in the office can only output MP4
format, which is not recognized by PowerPoint.
Is there a workaround? An add-in? A plug-in that can help me?
As examples, I play television commercials in my PowerPoint presentations.

Thanks again,

Vincent Pozon

Have you tried dragging and dropping the file onto a slide?
Converting to something that PowerPoint does like?

Are you a Mac user and do you use Mac PowerPoint?
If so I'd try the mac newsgroup aswell.

Drag and drop won't work. The latest Windows Media Player can't even
recognize it. No, not a Mac User. Just trying to work with what I have. Am
scouring the internet for converters.

But thanks anyway!

Vincent

As MP4 is a Quicktime based file format Quicktime Pro should do the best job
of converting it.
You may have Pro already, AVID being an Apple-friendly system ported to the
PC.
To find out open the file in the Quicktime Player. If there's an Export
option under the File menu then you're laughing.
If not:

Yes, it seems that is my only recourse, to buy Quicktime Pro. I was just
hoping I could work with the files I do have now in time for a presentation.
Tried other converters -- lousy output. Again, thank you, this validates the
nag at the back of my head. :-)

Quicktime Pro is the best converter I've used for Quicktime formats.
It even converts files that Premiere can't even open.
It's seems foolish of AVID if *.mp4 is the only export option.
Which product do you use?

Ah, yes. Now I understand it better. Apparently, our old Avid, which was
PC-based, could export in AVIs. But our new Avid, Mac-based, can only export
to DV Stream, Quicktime movie, MPEG-4. It's an Avid Xpress DV 3.5.0.

I really have to buy Quicktime Pro. Thanks again!
