I think ringtones are actually midi files, so you need a mp3 to midi
converter.
Two totally different formats. If such a thing exists. best wishes..J

Is there a freeware program that will do this?

Thanks... Bob

It'll be easer to search the net for MIDI files. There are thousands
available. Just google along.

Depends on what kind of sound formats your phone can take. If it takes wav,
any converter should do. dbPowerAmp, for instance.

If your phone takes amr, do a google for wav2amr and see what pops up. I
believe I ended up with some program that did the job for me.

Please don't use "ringtones."
I really hate being forced to endure other people's cell phone "music."
I'm into quiet, and I want other people to respect this.

I have noticed when I have downloaded some tones (Cingular, Motorola V3) it
says downloading ***.mp3. Either way though. MP3, wav, midi, how do I get
it into the phone in a usable format? Anyone know?

I know where you can get what you need, but it's not freeware--there's
a one-time, lifetime membership fee of $10 for unlimited use.

Freeringers.net is a site where you can convert graphics and midi
files to your specific phone/carrier. The instructions are good, and
it works slick!

They sound soooo cheap anyway, especially the MIDIs. I'd find it
highly embarassing if I used MIDIs.
