Moving XP Pro from one machine to another

I am building a new computer and wish to remove the XP install on my existing
and use it on my new computer. How do I do this and get a valid iicense since
the software has already been licensed on the old machine?

Follow the process you have stated of removing it from the one machine and
then install it on the new machine. Once install is complete, attempt to
activate via the internet. That may succeed depending on how long it has
been since you last activated XP on the old machine. If it fails, choose
the option to activate by phone instead. When activating by phone you can
state that you are transferring the license to a new machine, having removed
it from the old machine, and you will be given the numbers to enter to
activate on the new machine. It is a pretty straightforward process.

in addition to what Tom says, you can ONLY do this if you have a RETAIL
copy. (To be in compliance with the EULA. I leave it to you whether you
consider this to be fair use or not.....)

No, the OEM license is tied to the machine it is installed on and cannot be
transferred to another machine.

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not legitimately
transferable), simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on
and then install it on the new computer. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, the you'll most
likely be able to activate via the Internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.

Tom, does this work for the OEM version?

It would work, technically, if you have an unbranded, generic OEM
installation CD. However, it would be a violation of the EULA, and no
honest person would do so.
