Moving XP Pro from one desktop to another

The windows xp professional EULA has a statement in it that says you can
move the software internally from one workstation to another, provided
you completely delete XP Pro from the first. However, the activation
description I read would make you belive that you can't delete it from
one computer and install it on another as the activation code is
previously registered on the old machine.
I want to delete my WIN XP Pro from an old HP Pavilion and put the
pavilion back to it's original win 98se. I then want to install my XP
PRO on my newer desktop to replace WIN2K. It looks like if I do that I
am withing the EULA of only having it installed on one machine at a
time. Is what I want to do possible? Can I call Microsoft and explain
what I need to do and have them delete the first activation from their
database? If not, how can I remove it from one machine and put it on
another? Does anyone have the phone number or e-mail address where I
can ask microsoft?
Thanks,
Jim Kennedy

Jim;
There is no problem as long as Windows XP is retail and not OEM.
Simply remove Windows XP from the first computer and install on the second.

Attempt internet activation, if that fails, choose the option to activate by
phone.
Call Microsoft at the displayed number, normally done in about 5 minutes.

Thanks Jupiter,

That's what I needed to know. I have gathered the info (product ID and
product CODE), now I'm looking for the toll free number. Sure would be
nice to have it beforehand. If I can't find it, I'll just wait for it to
pop up when I do the install.
Thanks again,
JFK

The Number to Microsoft is 1-800-MICRO-SOFT (1-800-64276-7638) The problem I
have with them is that they bounced me to DELL support at 1-800-869-3915 who
bounced me here. I want to install Win XP onto a computer it was once on but,
my computer crashed and now I am trying to reload it. I just wanted a new
code so I can continue using windows. If you get somewhere let me know please.

You got bounced around partly because that is not the correct number for
activation.
The correct number for your particular region is displayed on the activation
screen.

Also if your computer and Windows XP are Dell, Activation should not be
required.
Are you using the original Dell Windows XP CD?
Is your Dell computer still in the original hardware configuration?

Hi

Like the man says you have to run the activation wizard, select you country/region and then AND ONLY THEN does it display the relevant no to phone

Also as previouly mentioned for this to work your XP must be retail NOT OEM
