Moving OS to another Puter

Ok I have this New Sony laptop that Sony will not cover
due to when opening the LCD screen created a crack. $1300
down the tubes because they stated I broke it some how
while opening it. (Well DUH!) I guess since no-one from
Sony actually witnessed the tragic event they assume its
not their fault. This thing always opened hard. But that
is not the question I am going to ask.

Since I am forced to scrap this laptop out, I want to use
the Windows XP OS as an upgrade in one of my other
desktops before I take a sledge hammer to work out my
frustrations to Sony. ( I can then ship it more cheaply
to Sony this way) ;)

Any help would be great. The recover disk for the sony
knows I am loading into the wrong computer and will not
proceed.

You cannot use the Sony Restore CD on any computer other
than the one it came with. It is BIOS-locked to that specific
computer.

Pull the hard drive out of the sony you'll have to get a
2.5 to ide adapter for it. Then you can place into the
other computer and re-activate it. you probably have to
call and use the automated system. Disconnect as much
hardware as you can on the new system. then you can copy
it to whatever you want.

There are two points: One is that (especially on a laptop) the
installed OS is liable to be customised to proprietary hardware and will
not work on another. The second is that the copy of Windows is licensed
(at cut price) solely to that machine and may not be installed on
another.
