Moving Microsoft Word from XP to Vista

I am changing PC's from Windows XP on the old, to Vista on the new one.
Having transferred my Microsoft Word program, when clicking winword.exe I
get "The operating system is not presently configured to run this
application".
I would appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction to overcome
this.

How did you 'transfer' your Microsoft Word program? It will require complete
reinstallation, rather than simply copying from one machine to the other.

Not fixable - unless that Winword.Exe is an "Ancient" version. Modern
programs have dependency components. These aren't always installed
alongside the executable. Additionally, there are Registry keys/values to
help tie all the various components together. Unless you have the install
media, you're unlikely to get a Winword.Exe to run as a standalone exe.

You can not move it you need to reinstall it.

get out your original installation disks and install Word on Vista. You
can't just "move" it to Vista.

You can't 'transfer' Word. It has to be installed from the disc and just the
work, templates etc. transferred

Pull out your Office installation CD, insert CD, follow setup instructions,
that'll reinstall Word/Office to your system.

If you lost/destroyed/sold your Office CD then buy a new one.

Congratulations to the schlumps in the American Congress who did not have a
minute to debate the issues on the War in Iraq but spent a day condemning
free speech critical of it. No discussion of 4 million displaced refugees
who can't get work permits in other countries or into the US (about 150 have
been admitted in the US). No word of Blackwater who kills at will and is
subject to law in no country.

No word of the thousands of Dover coffins filled with dead boddies or the $3
Billion per week thrown away in Iraq. No definiton of what the empty phrase
"winning" actually means when we have no definite opponent but hundreds of
groups who oppose the US presence.

Most of all Congrats to the totally apathetic Americans who have no regard
for the loss of life that will continue to rage in Iraq until a draft is
instituted. That'll stop the chickenhawk Republican cheerleaders who
wouldn't get near service in Iraq and their kids of age to go (almost all US
Senators in this group) on a dime.

Hi John--

I should have added dragging and dropping Office or copying it is a bad
idea. I've tried it with Office 2003, and I fixed it with Detect and
Repair but the reason it is a terrible idea is that you are discounting the
files and folders, registry keys and subkeys and registry values that do not
transfer or transfer and get corrupted in the process.

Always install and run the appropriate setup for Office or any program when
going from one hard drive to another (as in say adding an external HD) or
going from one OS to another (as say on a dual boot or any other situation).
