You mean the user profile not become a new one in the domain? Initially -
no way really. After the new one has been created, you can just point the
new profile (in the registry) to the old profile location and make sure the
new user (domain user) has the proper file/directory permissions to the old
profile.

Are there files or folders we can copy and copy over after we get onto the
domain

That is another option.. I suppose.
Copy the old users profile over the new users profile after the initial
logon of the new domain user.

Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> User Profiles -> Settings button and
select the old profile and Copy To the new profile directory under
C:\Documents and Settings\Username.domain (usually) - make sure that you
change permissions so that at least the new domain user has permissions to
use the copied information.

Hi

We solve this by (in the registry) changing the profile path for
the new user to point to the old user's profile folder (the user
needs to log on at least once first).

If the user is not a local admin, you might need to to something on the
permission side. Use tip 4631 and 2240 in the 'Tips & Tricks' at

Hi

You may experience that not all settings are transferred using this
method. The "change pointer in registry" is a safer bet.
