Movie Maker 2 upgrade still doesn't work

Three problems:

1. Movie Maker started having a problem recently. Captured
video starts having glitches after about the 3 minute
mark. Video and audio start freezing, jumping, clicking.
Couldn't figure out what the problem was. It isn't the
tape, because if I keep my captures under 3 minutes, it
doesn't happen. Frustrating. So I came to Microsoft's
site to re-download and re-install it, thinking that might
fix it. When I got here, I saw that there was a new
version out - Movie MAker 2. Even better, I thought. So
I downloaded and installed... which leads to Problem #2:

2. The install didn't seem to take. It gave me install
dialogue and told me it was finished and all, but I
couldn't find it. The old Movie Maker was still there,
but hadn't upgraded. I could launch it, but it was no
different before. The About Movie Maker screen confirmed
that it was still the original program. So I came back to
the Microsoft site and checked the Knowledge Base. Turns
out it's a known issue. Which leads me to Problem #3:

3. Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 825229 "Movie Maker
Does Not Upgrade to Movie Maker 2 in Windows XP". This
article lists a solution to the above problem. So I
followed it to the letter. But it still doesn't work.
Again it gives me install dialogue and appears to work,
but when I start up moviemk.exe, it's still the old one.
Anybody else have this problem?

List responses here - thanks.
