Thinking about upgrading MB / Processor & HD. I have been informed data can
be moved from old drive to new but programs must be re-installed on new
drive?. Will also do a clean install of WINXP HOME on new drive. A few
programs, virus, adaware, spybot, calendar, are downloads therefore there
are no disks. Other programs I had when I upgraded to WINXP work fine after
upgrade but at times I have discovered that some programs would not install
after upgrade, as long as they were on the computer WINXP would recognize
them and run fine.

Any comments suggestions appreciated?.

Here's a trick from the trenches for you.

Start with the XP CD in place. Do a repair install. Let it run through until
the FIRST time it goes to reboot... TURN IT OFF instead...

COPY THAT drive to your new drive.

Continue with repair installation on the NEW drive... ;)

This will basically set your system to be ready to accept hardware changes
and use new drivers. Then you'll just need to re-install updates though your
apps should still be in place. Meaning that you don't have to do a clean
install and start new. Just an idea...
