Hello!

My c: drive is failing and that is where I have XP
installed. Can anyone tell me how to move my XP
installation to a new drive? I bought a new drive -- but
if I take out the old drive, I won't have XP installed! I
have my XP upgrade disk, but I upgraded from Win98 (I
don't have those disks still!), so I don't think I can
just re-install.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Go to the new hard drive manufacturer's web site and download their
free disk copying utility.

Install the new hard drive temporarily as the master drive on the
secondary IDE channel Normally the CDROM drive is connected to this -
unplug the data and power cables from the CDROM and use them for the
new hard drive. This avoids problems with master/slave drive jumper
configuration.

Use the disk copying utility (these usually create a bootable diskette
that you use to boot the computer and launch the program) to copy the
old drive contents to the new drive.

Then remove the old drive and put the new drive into its place.
Reconnect the CDROM. Your computer should now boot up okay from the
new hard drive.

Good luck
