Move programs

I recently did a clean install of XP and all my
applications on a partitioned drive. The original plan
was to have Windows on one partition, programs on
another, and documents on the third. Most applications
gave me the option of where to save them. Some of those
still placed files on the c: partition and other apps
didn't offer an option. Is there a way-other than
changing the default install path and reinstalling the
apps-of moving them to the partition with all the other
apps?
Post or e-mail will be appreciated.

Jason Haynes cogitated deeply and scribbled thusly:

You can't just "move" applications from one partition to another. You
will have to un-install and re-install, but even that may not work
because there will still possibly be entries regarding those apps in the
registry, so they may just re-install in the original location.

another program that will relocate programs to a different drive/partition is COA32.
do a google search for it.
its a PC Magazine utility if I remember correct.

No - and although it *is* possible to point Program files off to a
different partition, I would not advise it: there is too much scope for
having the backup of the two partitions out of sync. As it stands
C:\Program. . . is built into far too many registry entries, and though
there have been programs that claimed to move things, I would not trust
them. If you take the option to use a different partition whenever
possible, Program Files need not be unacceptably big. Some things do
install components there - into Common files for one, and some
semi-system things like Outlook express and Media player insist on being
there. I have a bit of extra stuff there, and with the Windows folder
I would reckon it could be comfortable 2.5 GB of files. Add in the
restore points and page file (if you do not have a second physical
drive) and 3.5 GB of data on something like a 5GB partition is quite
practicable.
